Full Name Cammy White
Video Game Street Fighter II
Year 2003
Materials Green and red fabric, sawed up toy legos, crafting clay, nylongs painted with camoflauge, and some squishy packing foam for stuffing the gauntlets.
Process Using a gymastics leotard pattern I created green bodypiece. The red gauntlet's Cammy wears was definitely the most difficult piece to make; it took a lot of creative thinking and at the time I was still very much a novice seamstress. I made two red fingerless gloves as the base using a very durable fabric. For the circular bands I hot glued two pieces of foam with the red fabric wrapped tightly around it. For the knuckles I got reaaaally creative and found two giant toy legos meant for toddlers. Sawing off the bottom half and burning little holes in the sides I could attatch them to the gauntlet base. Then I coated them in red acrylic paint and a gloss and voila. For the leg paint I got a pair of dancer's tights and painted green splotches of camoflauge. The red beret I ordered on eBay and made the red and gold badges (on the beret and leotard) out of sculpy.
Inspiration Besides the gimmecat costume I'd never done a video game character before and I thought it was high time to change that. I didn't especially like Cammy (I kind of preferred Chun Li) but I recognized I wasn't going to convince anyone dressed as a chinese lady. Even in 2003 Cammy was a very common costume and it still is to this day and I now know why. Her costume is relatively easy to create, very comfortable, and eeeveryone recognizes you. It was a very fun costume and I'm glad I did it.
