Process This is one of the bigger projects I have ever taken on. I had already made a sun dress version, but I didn't feel I was done having fun with the character, so I decided to face the beast I was unable to 4 years before: made a plugsuit. Just getting started was a big task. It took a lot of creative thinking, because you're simply not going to find a pattern for a futuristic mecha suit out there. First thing I did was look at a lot of previously made plugsuits and guessed how they constructed it, and where I could improve the design. Eventually I settled on buying a unitard pattern and just making it up as I went along. I worked on this project for about a year off and on until finally completing it.

Inspiration Neon Genesis: Evengelion has been stamped with a mainstream anime aura surrounding it. My answer to this is because everyone secretly found it interesting. I really enjoyed Asuka's character because there's more to her than just being a brat. Most animes have their uppity female figure who causes no end of stress for the main hero, usually male, and its easy to write Asuka off as typical-episode-drama-provider. I think there is more to her however. Unlike most animes, there diffinitive explaination Asuka developed the attitude she did, and to my pleasure, there is also exploration into what she might have been had tragedy not befallen her so heavily.

At a very young age Asuka's mother took her own life leaving her to believe she was unwanted, and unworthy of love. From that point on she spends time accumulating skills she feels are worth being proud of, and insists on reminding everyone around her about them.  When Asuka begins to feel unsure of herself again, her abilities to function and pilot Unit 02 dimish, reliving the shame of her mother's seeming distain for her. At Asuka's strongest point in the anime is when she finally realizes her mother was with her all along, loving her and very proud of her daughter.
